New Delhi, February 12: The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIIB) has clarified that reports claiming the investigation into the Air India flight AI-171 accident is complete are incorrect and speculative. The investigation is still ongoing, and no final conclusions have been reached.
The AAIIB conducts its investigations strictly under the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules 2025 and in accordance with ICAO Annex 13. This technical, evidence-based process aims to identify the real causes of accidents and enhance safety.
The preliminary report released earlier contained the information available at that time. A final investigation report will be published in accordance with international regulations once the investigation is complete. This final report will include findings and safety recommendations.
The AAIIB urges media organizations to exercise restraint and avoid premature speculation. Reporting without verification can cause unnecessary public concern and undermine the integrity of professional investigations.
The AAIIB is fully committed to transparency, procedural integrity, and the highest standards of aviation safety.
It is noteworthy that Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murleedhar Mohol, informed the Rajya Sabha earlier this month that the AAIIB is investigating all aspects of the Air India flight AI-171 accident that occurred in Ahmedabad last June, with the aim of completing the investigation in a timely manner.
In a written response to a question in the House, the minister stated, “All possible causes of the accident are being investigated, and efforts are being made to complete the investigation in a timely manner in accordance with ICAO regulations.”
On June 12, 2025, just seconds after taking off from Ahmedabad Airport, Air India flight AI-171 crashed into a medical college, resulting in the deaths of 241 passengers and crew members, as well as 19 others on the ground.
