No Need for Jihad in India, Says Maulana Shahabuddin

Bareilly, June 24: Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi responded to a statement by Arshad Madani, the head of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, who claimed that every Muslim should engage in jihad.

In an interview with a news agency, Maulana Shahabuddin pointed out that while Madani spoke about jihad, he failed to clarify the circumstances under which it should be pursued.

The Maulana emphasized the need for Madani to specify whether jihad is necessary in India. He referenced a book by Ala Hazrat, which states that jihad is not required in India, as it is a country of peace and faith.

He noted that individuals of all religions have the right to practice their traditions freely, without any restrictions. In such a scenario, neither jihad nor hijrat (migration) is justified.

Maulana Shahabuddin urged Madani, as an elder, to clarify the conditions under which jihad may be necessary or unnecessary. He firmly stated that there is no need for jihad in India, and engaging in it is not justified.

Maulana Saif Abbas also reacted to Madani’s statement, explaining that while the term jihad is often used, it comes with specific conditions that do not apply in today’s context. He questioned who has the authority to determine what is right or wrong. According to him, the conditions for jihad require permission from an infallible prophet or imam, who are not present in today’s world. Therefore, they lack the authority to grant permission for jihad.

BJP leader Bhola Singh also criticized Madani’s statement, labeling it misleading for the youth. He stated that such remarks are entirely meaningless and should not be accepted under any circumstances. Singh called for action against those attempting to mislead young people with false information, urging them to guide the youth towards the right path.

Additionally, Uttar Pradesh government minister Yogendra Upadhyay condemned Madani’s remarks, asserting that some individuals prioritize their religion over the nation. He suggested that such statements reflect a mindset that places religion above national interests, while the rest of society considers the nation paramount.
