Odisha Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai Attends 80th Convention of Manwa Kurmi Kshatriya Community

Raipur, February 23: Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai participated in the two-day 80th convention of the Manwa Kurmi Kshatriya community held in Gram Champa. At the start of the event, the Chief Minister paid tribute to freedom fighter Dr. Khubchand Baghel by observing two minutes of silence and honoring the community’s distinguished personalities with floral tributes. He was warmly welcomed with a traditional garland.

During his address, CM Sai recognized the community as hardworking, progressive farmers, and organized contributors to the state’s development. He congratulated them on the 80th convention, noting the significance of the event being held in the home village of the Revenue and Higher Education Minister. He emphasized that such conventions foster unity, coordination, and positive decisions that benefit not just the community but the state and the nation as a whole.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the Manwa Kurmi community is progressing under the guidance of great leaders like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Dr. Khubchand Baghel. He encouraged attendees to watch a lively drama based on the biography of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. He stressed that education is the foundation for building better individuals and a stronger society, commending efforts to connect every child in the community with education. He praised initiatives for women’s self-employment, youth drug rehabilitation campaigns, and educational reforms.

CM Sai stated that the state government has made significant strides in fulfilling the Prime Minister’s guarantees over the past two years. In the state, 1.8 million Prime Minister housing units have been completed. This year, 25.24 lakh farmers have sold 141 lakh metric tons of rice at support prices, and approximately 10,000 crore rupees will be distributed to farmers before Holi. Under the Matarani Vandan scheme, 70 lakh women have received 15,000 crore rupees so far.

He noted that a new era of development is emerging in the Bastar region, where the national flag has been hoisted in 45 villages for the first time. The government is committed to eradicating Naxalism by March 2026, in line with the Prime Minister’s and Home Minister’s vision. Development projects have been initiated in 400 villages through the Niyad Nellaar scheme.

Revenue Minister Tankaram Verma, addressing the gathering, remarked on the remarkable development achieved under the Chief Minister’s leadership over the past two years. Numerous welfare schemes for farmers, women, and youth have been effectively implemented, ensuring no decline in development. Today, every community is thriving, and the state is progressing towards prosperity.

Central President Khodas Ram Verma shared important decisions made by the community, including the complete ban on death feasts and Kelewa traditions, the revival of widow remarriage, a ban on DJs at ceremonies, and the cessation of pre-wedding events. He stated that the community is advancing social harmony and progressive thinking by following the ideals of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Dr. Khubchand Baghel.

The convention was attended by Rajim MLA Rohit Sahu, Baloda Bazar Rajpradhan Sunita Verma, General Secretary Yashwant Singh Verma, Executive Member Rahul Tikriha, and a large number of community members and youth.
