Tashkent, September 4 (Daily Kiran) : The Indian community in Uzbekistan has announced a significant initiative to plant 35,000 trees across the country. This effort is part of the “One Tree in the Name of Mother” campaign from India and Uzbekistan’s “Yashil Makon” initiative. The campaign marks the upcoming 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Uzbekistan, set to be celebrated next year.
This announcement was made during a gathering where Indian Ambassador to Uzbekistan Smita Pant shared key outcomes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to the country. The Indian Embassy highlighted the community’s commitment to the tree-planting initiative on the social media platform X.
During his visit, Prime Minister Modi planted a tree at the presidential palace in Tashkent alongside President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. This act symbolically linked India’s “One Tree in the Name of Mother” initiative with Uzbekistan’s “Yashil Makon” green campaign.
Modi emphasized the importance of collaboration between India and Uzbekistan to enhance green spaces and build a sustainable future. He posted on X, stating, “A shared resolve for a better planet from Tashkent. President Mirziyoyev and I planted a tree, linking our initiatives. We will continue to work towards expanding green spaces and creating a sustainable future.”
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this initiative reflects the shared commitment of both nations to environmental protection and the pursuit of a greener and sustainable future.
During his trip, Modi also engaged in delegation-level talks with President Mirziyoyev, focusing on strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and other crucial sectors. Senior officials, including External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, were present for these discussions.
