Bhubaneswar, March 5: Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal, Sujit Kumar, and independent candidate Dilip Ray submitted their nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha elections on Thursday.
During the nomination process, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister K.V. Singh Deo, and several senior leaders from the ruling party were present.
The three candidates filed their nomination papers before the returning officer on the last day for nominations.
After submitting his nomination, Manmohan Samal spoke to the media, stating that the BJP is focused on the development of Odisha and national interests in this election. He emphasized that the party is united and committed to becoming a strong voice for the state in Parliament.
“We are confident of victory. Our priority is to raise issues related to Odisha’s development and ensure that the state receives its due attention at the national level,” he said.
Samal also mentioned that the party will work diligently to fulfill the hopes of the people of Odisha. He dismissed the opposition’s concerns regarding ‘secularism’ and political speculations, asserting that the BJP is focused on positive politics.
The BJP President claimed that independent candidate Dilip Ray would win the Rajya Sabha elections with ease.
After his nomination, former Union Minister and industrialist Dilip Ray expressed gratitude to the BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitin Naveen, Chief Minister Mohan Chandra Majhi, and Manmohan Samal for their full support in his candidacy. “I have filed my nomination today and will start my campaign tomorrow. I hope to receive support like I did in 2002, and I am confident of winning,” he stated.
Manmohan Samal was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2000, while senior leader Dilip Ray served from 1996 to 2002 and was re-elected in 2002, delivering a significant political blow to then Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, as several BJD legislators allegedly cross-voted in that election.
Meanwhile, senior leader Sujit Kumar, whose term ends this April, has been re-nominated by the ruling BJP for the Rajya Sabha.
Sujit Kumar expressed his gratitude to the party’s senior leaders for their trust in him once again. “I sincerely thank my parents and everyone who has supported and guided me throughout my journey,” he said.
