Ujjain, 30 December. Actress Nusrat Bharucha visited the Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga temple in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, on Tuesday to offer her prayers on the auspicious occasion of Putrada Ekadashi. She participated in the divine Bhasma Aarti and received blessings from Baba Mahakal, appearing deeply immersed in devotion.

This marked Nusrat Bharucha’s second visit to Baba Mahakal’s shrine. During the Bhasma Aarti, she sat in the Nandi Hall, fully absorbed in Shiva bhakti. The temple priests presented her with a Mahakal-embroidered dupatta as prasadam, which she accepted with visible happiness. After the darshan, Nusrat praised the temple’s arrangements.

She remarked that despite the large crowd, everything was smooth and well-organised. She especially appreciated the water offering system, where water is poured directly on the Jyotirlinga through pipes, allowing devotees to make offerings without waiting in long queues. Nusrat shared that visiting Baba Mahakal brings her peace and energy.

The Bhasma Aarti is the most special ritual at the Mahakal temple, held during Brahma Muhurat. In this ritual, Lord Shiva is adorned with sacred ash. The Bhasma Aarti at Mahakaleshwar temple is famous, attracting devotees from across the world. It holds great mythological significance, as the ash used is collected from funeral pyres.

Along with the pyre ash, the ritual includes ash from the wood of Gohri, Peepal, Palash, Shami, and Bel trees. According to religious beliefs, women cover their heads with a veil or shawl during the Bhasma Aarti. It is believed that during this time, Mahakaleshwar is in a formless state, and women are traditionally not allowed to participate in or watch the aarti.
