Notorious Thief from Tamil Nadu Arrested in Noida with Stolen Laptops and Cash

Noida, July 2: The Sector-126 police in Noida have apprehended a notorious thief from Tamil Nadu, who was involved in a series of thefts in PGs, hostels, rented rooms, and flats. Authorities recovered six stolen laptops, seven mobile phones, a stolen motorcycle, ₹12,500 in cash, an Aadhaar card, a driving license, and an illegal knife from the suspect’s possession.

The accused had been active in Noida and the NCR region for a considerable time, primarily targeting students and working professionals. Recently, a victim reported to the Sector-126 police that an unknown individual had stolen two laptops from his room after taking advantage of an open door. Additionally, two laptops, an Aadhaar card, and a driving license belonging to his roommate were also stolen.

Following the complaint, a case was registered, and the police launched an investigation. A special team was formed to crack the case, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area was scrutinized. Based on manual intelligence and confidential information, the police arrested the suspect, Balan Govindan, in front of Gadhi Shahpur in Sector-131.

During interrogation and searches, four laptops, an Aadhaar card, and a driving license related to the case were recovered. Furthermore, two additional laptops, seven mobile phones, a stolen motorcycle, and ₹12,500 in cash obtained from the sale of stolen goods were also seized.

The accused revealed that he originally hails from Tamil Nadu and had been committing thefts in Noida and the NCR for quite some time. He would often scout PGs, hostels, and rented accommodations for several days. He targeted locations with weak security or where people carelessly left their doors open, seizing the opportunity to steal laptops, mobiles, cash, and other valuables.

He also disclosed that he frequently used a stolen motorcycle to carry out his thefts. To conceal his identity, he sometimes relied on app-based bike services like Rapido and Ola. The stolen mobile phones and laptops were sold at low prices to passersby. On several occasions, he shipped stolen items back to his home state of Tamil Nadu for resale. The money obtained from these thefts was used to cover his personal expenses.

According to the police, the accused also carried an illegal knife to intimidate anyone who might resist him, allowing for a quick escape. The arrested individual has been identified as 36-year-old Balan Govindan, son of Govindan, from Tirupattur, Tamil Nadu. He has multiple cases registered against him for theft and violations of the Arms Act at various police stations in Gautam Buddh Nagar, including Sector-126 and Sector-113. Currently, the police are working to identify the rightful owners of the recovered mobile phones and laptops. They are also investigating whether the accused was part of an organized theft gang or acted independently. Authorities believe that further disclosures regarding other thefts are likely based on the ongoing interrogation.
