Saharanpur, July 2: A tragic incident has shocked the community in Saharanpur, where the bodies of a lab technician and a young teacher were discovered under suspicious circumstances in a rented room. The grim discovery was made late Wednesday night in the SBI Colony area of the Sadar Bazaar police station jurisdiction.
Initial investigations suggest that the couple may have taken their own lives due to a romantic relationship and familial opposition. The deceased, 39-year-old Sam Kamnish, was a resident of Kerala and had been working as a lab technician at the Medigram Hospital in Saharanpur for the past decade. His partner, 24-year-old Aastha, was a teacher at a private inter-college and hailed from the Gagalhedi area. The two had been in a relationship for the last four years.
According to police reports, Sam and Aastha first met at Medigram Hospital while Aastha’s mother was receiving treatment, which eventually blossomed into a romantic relationship. Sam was previously married, but his wife had moved to Delhi several years ago. Aastha’s family was strongly opposed to their relationship.
On Wednesday morning, Aastha left home to go to college but never arrived. When she did not return by evening, her family began searching for her and expressed suspicion towards Sam, prompting them to notify the police. CCTV footage from the hospital showed the couple leaving in a car. With the help of the car’s driver, police located Sam’s rented room that night.
Upon arrival, they found the door locked from the inside. After breaking it down, they discovered Sam’s body hanging from a noose, with cuts on his wrist. Aastha’s body was found on the floor, with foam emerging from her mouth, suggesting she may have ingested a toxic substance.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Manoj Kumar Yadav reported that police arrived at the scene on July 1 after receiving information. The forensic team collected evidence, and the case appears to be linked to a romantic relationship and potential suicide. Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examinations. Aastha’s body has been handed over to her family, while authorities await Sam’s relatives from Kerala. A thorough investigation is underway, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. No signs of external injuries were found on the deceased.
