Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2026 Set to Begin in Lucknow

Lucknow, July 2: The ‘Uttar Pradesh Mango Festival 2026’ will take place from July 3 to July 5 at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan in Gomti Nagar. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will inaugurate the three-day event on Friday. The festival will showcase over 800 varieties of mangoes across seven categories and 56 sections. This information was shared by Dinesh Pratap Singh, the Minister of Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing, and Agricultural Export.

On July 4, a buyer-seller conference for mangoes will be held at ‘Jan Bhawan’ in Lucknow. The minister mentioned that representatives from the horticulture departments of Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Maharashtra, along with progressive farmers and exporters, will participate. Mango plants displayed at the festival will also be available for sale. He urged attendees to plant at least one sapling during the festival.

The festival will feature a mango-eating contest for children and a competition for mango-based dishes as major attractions. Additionally, workshops focusing on advanced techniques, post-harvest management, pest control, and marketing will be organized for farmers. For the first time, a buyer-seller conference will take place on July 4 at ‘Jan Bhawan’ in Lucknow to provide farmers direct market access.

Uttar Pradesh ranks first in the country for mango production. The state produces approximately 61.96 lakh metric tons of mangoes across 3.27 lakh hectares, accounting for about 26.22% of the total mango production in India. Varieties such as Dasheri, Langra, Chausa, Gaurjeet, Lucknow Safeda, Ratol, and Amrapali are renowned globally. These are primarily cultivated in the regions of Lucknow, Saharanpur, Meerut, Moradabad, Varanasi, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj.

According to APEDA data, there has been remarkable progress in mango exports from the state. In the year 2024-25, mangoes and pulp worth ₹2.63 crore were exported, which increased to ₹12.67 crore worth of 3,563 metric tons in 2025-26. Uttar Pradesh mangoes are exported to both developing and developed countries, including the United Kingdom, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Singapore, Kuwait, New Zealand, Belgium, Japan, Italy, Qatar, and Russia. This year, mango exports to other countries will also occur during the festival.

Modern mango packhouses have been established in Lucknow, Saharanpur, Varanasi, and Amroha, where mangoes undergo pre-processing and treatment according to international protocols. A fruit testing and treatment center is being constructed near Jewar Airport to enhance future horticultural exports. To protect mangoes from pests and diseases and improve their size, taste, and shine, the department has distributed approximately 1.5 crore fruit bags to farmers this year. A 40% subsidy is being provided for canopy management of unproductive and aging orchards at a per hectare unit cost.
