Indian Leaders to Represent at Khameneis Funeral in Iran

New Delhi, July 2: Bihar’s Governor, Lieutenant General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain, along with Minister of State for External Affairs, Pabitra Margerita, will depart for Iran on July 3. They will represent India at the funeral of the late Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Syed Ali Khamenei.

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, both leaders are set to arrive in the Islamic Republic of Iran on July 3 to participate in the funeral rites.

The ministry emphasized that the presence of this high-level delegation reflects the long-standing civilizational ties between India and Iran, as well as the deep connections between the peoples of both nations. These ties serve as a strong foundation for political and economic cooperation between the two countries.

India and Iran have maintained historical, cultural, and economic relationships for a long time. Various political parties in India have received invitations to attend this event. Mehbooba Mufti of the PDP has also departed for Iran to participate. Additionally, Jain monk Lokesh has been invited and mentioned his direct arrival in Tehran from the United States.

Preparations for the funeral of the late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei are complete. The ceremonies will take place between July 4 and July 9. According to local media, final arrangements have been made at the Grand Mosalla complex in Tehran, where tributes will be paid to Khamenei in the presence of attendees and delegations from both domestic and international backgrounds.

News agency Tasnim released a message from President Masoud Pezeshkian, stating, “Khamenei’s death has proven that the Iranian system is anchored in faith, ideals, and the strong will of its people.”

He urged all Iranians, regardless of ethnic, religious, or political differences, to participate in the funeral. He emphasized the importance of demonstrating Iran’s unity to the world.
