Bihar Education Department Official Arrested for Bribery

Patna, July 2: The fight against corruption continues in Bihar, led by the Vigilance Investigation Bureau. In a recent operation, the bureau’s headquarters team apprehended Amod Mishra, an undersecretary in the Education Department, while he was accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The arrest took place near the Minister Enclave roundabout in Gardanibagh, Patna.

According to the Vigilance Bureau, a case was registered on July 1, 2026, under Vigilance Police Station Case No. 079/26. The complainant, Uma Shankar Umrebi, a resident of New Sarai in Nalanda district, reported that Mishra was demanding ₹20,000 in exchange for processing his arrears payment. Following the complaint, the bureau verified the allegations, which appeared credible during the investigation.

Subsequently, a special team was formed under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Shyam Babu Prasad. The team executed a planned operation and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe. The bureau has stated that the accused is currently being interrogated and will be presented before the Special Court (Vigilance) in Patna after the questioning is complete. Further investigation into the case is ongoing.

It is noteworthy that this is the 79th FIR registered against corruption in 2026, with this being the 74th case related to bribery traps. The bureau has reported that so far this year, 74 individuals have been caught accepting bribes, amounting to a total of ₹28,05,300 recovered.

According to bureau statistics, in 2025, a total of 101 trap cases were registered, with ₹37,80,300 in bribes recovered. Officials have stated that the Vigilance Bureau’s campaign against corruption will continue vigorously, ensuring strict action against officials and personnel involved in bribery.
