Ranchi, March 5: Jharkhand’s sole JD(U) legislator and former minister Saryu Rai has expressed dissatisfaction over Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s decision to resign and move to the Rajya Sabha. Rai stated that this move does not align with Kumar’s political stature.
Since taking charge in 2005, Nitish Kumar has established the concept of ‘good governance’ in Bihar, providing long-term administrative and political leadership. Therefore, the process of his resignation should have been more dignified and well-considered. The abrupt decision to remove him from the chief ministership and send him to the Rajya Sabha has left many feeling uneasy.
Rai also commented on the political activities that unfolded over the past two days from Delhi to Patna. He suggested that the events seemed pre-planned. If a leadership change was necessary and Kumar was in favor, it could have been executed in a more organized and balanced manner.
Since the announcement, Rai has been receiving numerous calls from JD(U) workers and supporters. Many grassroots workers feel disappointed and hurt by this decision. He described the situation as a ‘bitter pill’—something that can be accepted but is difficult to digest.
Rai referenced a statement released by Kumar on social media, questioning why such a senior and experienced leader felt the need for public clarification. He speculated that this statement might have been an attempt to quell the rising questions surrounding the situation.
However, Rai clarified that he has no objections to governing alongside the BJP and JD(U), but he is concerned about policy continuity. He raised questions about whether the new government would uphold Kumar’s key initiatives, particularly the liquor ban, and whether development policies would continue at the same pace.
