Jammu, March 14: A tragic road accident in the Bhaderwah area of Doda district, Jammu and Kashmir, has resulted in the deaths of police head constable Zulfiqar Ali and his wife, Rehana Begum. The Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, expressed deep sorrow over the incident.
The couple’s two young children sustained serious injuries in the accident, which occurred on Friday morning as the family was traveling from Bhaderwah to Bani. According to officials, head constable Zulfiqar Ali was stationed with the District Special Branch in Bhaderwah. They were returning from duty, with his wife and two children also in their Alto car.
Near Basti village, the car lost control and plunged off the road into a river or deep gorge. Both Zulfiqar and Rehana died at the scene, while their children were severely injured. They were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
An official post from the Chief Minister’s office on social media stated, “The Chief Minister expressed profound sorrow over the tragic road accident near Basti village in Bhaderwah, which claimed the lives of Jammu and Kashmir police head constable Zulfiqar Ali and his wife. He extended his heartfelt condolences to the grieving family and wished for the swift recovery of their injured children.”
The Deputy Chief Minister’s office also conveyed condolences via their official social media account, stating, “The tragic road accident near Basti village in Bhaderwah, which resulted in the loss of Jammu and Kashmir police head constable Zulfiqar Ali and his wife, is extremely heartbreaking. My deepest sympathies to the grieving family, and my prayers for the quick recovery of their injured children.”
This incident highlights the challenges of road safety in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in hilly areas where roads are narrow and weather conditions can be adverse. Police and administration have initiated an investigation at the accident site.
