BJD Cancels Iftar and Eid Milap Events Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict

Bhubaneswar, March 13: In light of the ongoing war and significant loss of life in the Middle East, Odisha’s leading opposition party, the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), has decided not to hold its Iftar and Eid Milap events this year.

According to party sources, the conflict in several Middle Eastern countries has resulted in the deaths of thousands of innocent people, with millions injured and many displaced, living under dire conditions. Given these circumstances, the BJD has chosen to forgo the celebrations, hoping for an end to the war and the establishment of peace.

During a press conference at the party headquarters, BJD Vice President and former minister Pratap Jena stated that every year, a grand Iftar and Eid Milap event is organized in the presence of party president Naveen Patnaik, alongside respected members of the Muslim community and various faiths.

However, he noted that many Odias residing in the Middle East are currently facing challenging situations due to the ongoing conflict. The war has directly affected over ten countries, with its impact felt globally.

Considering these conditions, the BJD has made the decision to postpone this year’s Iftar and Eid Milap events. Party president Naveen Patnaik expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and property due to the Middle East conflict, urging people to refrain from any celebrations during this tragic time and to pray for peace.

It is worth mentioning that former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has previously raised concerns about Odia tourists, students, professionals, and workers stranded in Gulf countries, calling for their safe and immediate return from the state and central government.
