New Delhi, March 30: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has resigned from his position in the Legislative Council after being elected to the Rajya Sabha. Congress MP Tariq Anwar criticized the resignation, asserting that it was not a voluntary decision by Kumar but rather a result of pressure from the BJP, forcing him to step down.
In a conversation in New Delhi, Anwar stated that Kumar’s resignation was necessary. According to constitutional provisions, an individual cannot be a member of both houses simultaneously and must resign from one within a stipulated time.
Anwar further described Kumar’s resignation as a betrayal of the people of Bihar. He emphasized that Kumar has let the state down, failing to fulfill promises made during the elections. The people of Bihar are aware that Kumar resigned under BJP’s influence.
Regarding the opposition’s walkout from the Rajya Sabha, Anwar remarked that these individuals are disconnected from the realities of the nation. He highlighted that the Constitution addresses the need to uplift socially and educationally backward communities. The provision for reservations was established to assist these groups, which include minorities and individuals from various castes and religions.
On Monday, a commotion erupted in the Rajya Sabha when BJP MP K. Lakshman raised the issue of excluding the Muslim community from the OBC (Other Backward Classes) category. He argued that the benefits of OBC reservations should only be extended to socially backward classes, not based on religion.
Opposition parties strongly opposed this stance, leading to a walkout in protest against the government’s position.
