New Delhi, March 5: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is under fire from various political parties regarding his candidacy for the Rajya Sabha. Critics are labeling this move as a betrayal of the public trust.
Congress leader Udit Raj stated, “Nitish Kumar is set to betray the people. He rose to power due to the economically backward classes (EBC), yet over the past 20 years, he has offered them nothing but deception. Kumar has failed to establish universities and colleges, fulfill special quotas, or conduct special drives. There is no justification for a Chief Minister to become a Rajya Sabha member. After his election, no one will inquire about him. This decision is a betrayal of the economically backward classes.”
On the upcoming general elections in Nepal in 2026, Udit Raj emphasized the importance of democracy in neighboring countries. He remarked, “Democracy must prevail in India’s neighboring nations. Dialogue and discussion are possible in a democracy, but in situations of dictatorship or chaos, who will you converse with? All parties should have a chance. Nepal desperately needs democracy.”
Meanwhile, spokesperson for the Samajwadi Party, Fakhrul Hasan Chand, commented on Kumar’s Rajya Sabha candidacy, stating, “The opposition has long claimed that the BJP aims to seize power in Bihar through backdoor means. The government was formed under Nitish Kumar’s name, but now the BJP seeks to install its own Chief Minister. This is concerning, as in regions where the BJP governs, communal tensions are rising instead of development.”
Nitish Kumar confirmed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on social media platform X, stating, “Since the beginning of my parliamentary career, I have wished to be a member of both houses of the Bihar Legislative Assembly as well as both houses of Parliament. In this election, I aspire to become a member of the Rajya Sabha.”
