Nitish Bharadwaj: The Iconic Krishna Who Captivated Hearts

Mumbai, June 1: Renowned Indian actor, director, and former MP Nitish Bharadwaj was born on June 2, 1963, in the bustling city of Mumbai. Hailing from a modest Marathi Brahmin family, Nitish has left an indelible mark not only in the realm of acting but also in the hearts of millions through his portrayal of Lord Krishna.

Nitish’s family is associated with the Bharadwaj gotra of Marathi Brahmins. He completed his schooling at Gokhale Education Society’s D.G.T. High School and Robert Money School. He later graduated in Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry from Bombay Veterinary College, while also pursuing a B.Sc. from Wilson College.

Nitish has been married twice. His first marriage was to Monisha Patil in 1991, which lasted until 2005. He then married Smita in 2009. His journey into acting began with Marathi theatre, fueled by his desire to become an actor.

His life took a transformative turn in 1988 with B.R. Chopra’s epic television series ‘Mahabharat.’ At just 23-24 years old, he portrayed Lord Krishna, skyrocketing to fame overnight. His melodious voice, divine smile, and spiritual aura mesmerized audiences. He later brought various avatars of Lord Vishnu to life in ‘Vishnu Puran’ and other religious series. Following his role in ‘Mahabharat,’ he earned the title of ‘TV’s Krishna.’

Beyond television, Nitish has made significant contributions to cinema. He has played lead roles in several Marathi films and has also worked in Malayalam cinema. In Hindi films, he appeared in notable projects like ‘Kedarnath’ and ‘Mohenjo Daro.’

Nitish’s talents extend beyond acting. In 1996, he contested elections from the Jamshedpur Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket and won. However, in 1999, he faced defeat against Congress leader Digvijay Singh’s brother, Laxman Singh, in the Rajgarh Lok Sabha seat in Madhya Pradesh.
