Mumbai, June 22: Bollywood veteran Sunny Deol paid tribute to his late father, Dharmendra, on the 36th anniversary of his film ‘Ghayal’ on Monday.
Expressing gratitude, Sunny highlighted that his father’s belief in him and the writing of Rajkumar Santoshi brought ‘Ghayal’ to life. He also thanked the audience for their love towards the film.
On his official Instagram account, Sunny shared a montage of memorable scenes from ‘Ghayal,’ captioning it, “Dad’s faith and Raj’s writing made ‘Ghayal’ possible. Your love has made it immortal.” He included a heart and a praying hands emoji in his post.
Notably, when many producers declined to contribute to the film, Dharmendra took the initiative to produce it himself. His trust in Sunny paid off, as ‘Ghayal’ became one of the biggest hits of Sunny’s career.
Sadly, Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2025, at the age of 89 at his residence in Mumbai.
Meanwhile, the film’s lead actress, Meenakshi Seshadri, celebrated the 36th anniversary of ‘Ghayal’ by presenting her song ‘Mahiya Teri Kasam’ in a new style. In a video, she showcased her charming dance moves. In the caption, she wrote, “Today marks the 36th anniversary of ‘Ghayal’ – a film that will always hold a special place in my heart. Revisiting this beautiful romantic song feels particularly meaningful after three decades of reconnecting with Indian cinema.”
She added, “Sunny Deol and I have done many unforgettable films together, and ‘Dacait’ and ‘Ghayal’ have given audiences memorable romantic songs. This recreation celebrates those precious memories and the love you all have shown over the years.”
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, ‘Ghayal’ featured Raj Babbar and Amrish Puri in pivotal roles, along with Moushumi Chatterjee, Annu Kapoor, Om Puri, Sharat Saxena, and Sudesh Berry in supporting roles.
