Nishant Kumar Praises Nitish Kumars Vision for Womens Empowerment in Bihar

Patna, October 2 (Daily Kiran) : Bihar Minister Nishant Kumar has lauded the efforts of former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, highlighting the various welfare schemes initiated for women over the past two decades. He emphasized that the Livelihood Scheme, launched in 2006, has paved the way for self-reliance among women in Bihar.

Kumar described the last 20 years as an inspiring journey towards women’s empowerment and social participation. “Our aim is not just to make women economically self-sufficient but also to ensure their active participation in society,” he stated.

He underscored that the core philosophy of the Livelihood Scheme is to empower women and promote self-reliance. “Mahatma Gandhi envisioned a nation where development reaches the last person, allowing women to progress with dignity and equal opportunities,” Kumar remarked. He noted that the Livelihood Scheme has become a strong narrative of confidence, pride, and self-sufficiency for women in Bihar. Nearly 20 million women, known as “Livelihood Didis,” are now engaged in self-employment, entrepreneurship, agriculture, animal husbandry, and other activities that bolster both their families and the state’s economy.

Kumar also mentioned that the foundation laid by his father for women’s empowerment through the Livelihood Scheme will continue to expand, aiming to involve more women in Bihar’s progress.

JD(U) MP Sanjay Jha echoed Kumar’s sentiments, stating that the Livelihood Scheme, launched on Gandhi Jayanti in 2006, has brought revolutionary changes to women’s lives. Women continue to express gratitude to the former Chief Minister for this initiative. Meanwhile, Minister Mithilesh Tiwari visited flood-affected areas, noting that Baikunthpur has been severely impacted this year.

Tiwari detailed that the Sarhan embankment stretches from Sonpur to Ahirauli Dan in Uttar Pradesh, with about 40 kilometers of the embankment in the Gopalganj district situated in Baikunthpur. He reported that several panchayats in the Baikunthpur block have been fully or partially affected, with some experiencing significant damage. “One of our front embankments has broken; regardless of the cause, the water flow this time was exceptionally strong,” he explained, comparing the current water levels in the Gandak River to those in previous years. He concluded that the administration is performing admirably under the circumstances.
