NHRC Demands Report on Chemical Factory Explosion in Rewari

New Delhi, May 26: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken cognizance of media reports regarding an explosion at a chemical factory in Rewari district, Haryana, which resulted in the deaths of three workers and injuries to several others.

If the reports are accurate, this incident raises serious concerns about the violation of the victims’ human rights. In response, the NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Haryana and the Superintendent of Police in Rewari, requesting a detailed report within two weeks.

The NHRC stated that the report must include the current health status of the injured workers, as well as details of compensation provided to the families of the deceased and injured.

According to media reports, the explosion occurred on May 19 at a chemical factory located in an industrial area of Rewari while maintenance work was being conducted on the factory’s chilling plant. The explosion led to a fire, injuring six individuals.

One of the injured workers succumbed to his injuries in the hospital on May 20, while the remains of two other workers were recovered from the factory premises.

Reports indicate that this factory produces chemical products, aluminum foil, and industrial ink for both domestic and international markets. Following the explosions, approximately 300 employees were evacuated from the site.

In a separate case, the NHRC has also taken notice of a media report regarding a fire incident at a private hospital in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, which resulted in the death of a patient.

The NHRC has issued notices to the Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand and the Senior Superintendent of Police in Dehradun, demanding a detailed report within two weeks.

According to media reports, the fire broke out on May 20, allegedly due to a short circuit in an air conditioner, which spread throughout the facility. A total of 14 patients were rescued and admitted to a nearby hospital.

One female patient was declared dead, while four others were later discharged. The NHRC has determined that if the information provided in the news reports is accurate, it constitutes a serious violation of human rights, prompting the commission to seek detailed reports on both incidents from the relevant authorities.
