Mumbai, August 30: Maithili Bhue, a resident of Debrigarh in Sambalpur district, Odisha, expressed her joy and gratitude after Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned her work during his monthly radio program, ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ She is recognized for promoting eco-tourism and empowering local women.
In the 137th episode of ‘Mann Ki Baat,’ aired on Sunday, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Bhue’s significant contributions to forest conservation.
In an interview with a news agency, Bhue shared her journey from a financially struggling background. Initially, she supported her family by collecting and selling forest products like tendu leaves, bamboo, mahua, karadi, and firewood.
In 2023, she began working in Debrigarh’s eco-tourism sector, discovering a new source of livelihood. Her efforts have inspired many women in nearby villages to engage in eco-tourism initiatives.
“I am very happy that Prime Minister Modi mentioned my name in ‘Mann Ki Baat’ and praised my work. I sincerely thank him for recognizing our efforts,” Bhue said.
She also mentioned that she is currently training around 40 to 50 women in various aspects of eco-tourism and hospitality. The training focuses on respectful interactions with tourists, understanding their needs, and providing excellent service.
These women are involved in different sectors, including souvenir shops, tea stalls, restaurants, nature camps, and homestays. Bhue emphasized that they receive training tailored to their responsibilities.
“I want more women to become self-reliant and earn a livelihood through eco-tourism. I am training them to serve tourists confidently and contribute to Debrigarh’s development,” she added.
Once again, Bhue expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for appreciating her work and recognizing the efforts of women involved in Debrigarh’s eco-tourism.
