Shimla, 1 January 2026: On the first day of 2026, thousands of devotees gathered at various temples across Himachal Pradesh to offer thanks for the past year and seek blessings for the year ahead.

One of the busiest temples in northern India, the Naina Devi temple situated on a hill in Bilaspur district, saw a large influx of pilgrims mainly from Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Delhi, according to temple officials.

Similarly, heavy crowds were observed at Chintpurni temple in Una district, as well as Jwalamukhi and Brajeshwari Devi temples in Kangra district.

An official from Naina Devi temple told the news agency over the phone that they expect daily visitors to number between 15,000 and 20,000 through the weekend.

Meanwhile, a senior police officer said security has been stepped up at all major temples to manage the crowds effectively.

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu extended their greetings to the people on the occasion.
