New Delhi, May 6: A vacant field near the Yamuna River in New Delhi is transforming into a high-tech shield for national security. An advanced field training and demonstration center has been established to address Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.
The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) inaugurated this state-of-the-art CBRN training and demonstration center at Burari ground in Delhi. Dr. Samir V. Kamat, Secretary of the Department of Defence Research and Development and Chairman of DRDO, officiated the opening on Wednesday. This center marks a significant step in enhancing preparedness for radiological and nuclear emergencies.
This facility is not just an ordinary training center; it is developed as a CBRN ‘Centre of Excellence.’ It features a remarkable blend of technology and training. Advanced facilities, such as a radiological and nuclear test-bed, will allow practice in scenarios that mimic real-life conditions.
The Heavy Ion Research Facility will provide scientists with in-depth study opportunities, while the Emergency Medical Response System and real-time field units will be ready for immediate action. Notably, this center will not be limited to military personnel. Staff from the Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority, and other agencies will also receive training here.
Developed as a ‘Centre of Excellence,’ it offers modern amenities, including an emergency medical response system and real-time field response units. These features will ensure swift and effective responses to various disaster situations.
INMAS will organize training programs and workshops through this center, preparing a new generation of experts. Additionally, the use of the latest technologies and advanced equipment will further strengthen disaster management capabilities.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior DRDO officials and scientists, including Dr. Upendra Kumar Singh, Director General of Soldier Support Systems, Dr. Chandrika Kaushik, Director General (Production Coordination and Services Interaction), and Dr. Ravindra Singh, Director General of Resource and Management, among other dignitaries.
Experts believe that this initiative will empower the country’s CBRN disaster management capabilities and significantly enhance national security.
