
New Delhi, June 24: In a significant boost to higher education infrastructure in Delhi, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta chaired a meeting of the Delhi government’s expenditure finance committee on Wednesday. The committee approved the construction of a state-of-the-art new campus for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) in Dheerpur, North Delhi.
This new campus, with an estimated cost of ₹1,668 crores, aims to expand quality, modern, and future-ready higher education opportunities in the capital. It will provide world-class academic facilities to thousands of students.
According to the Chief Minister, the new campus will play a crucial role in enhancing higher education opportunities in the national capital. She emphasized that the Delhi government is fully committed to providing quality, modern, and accessible higher education to the youth.
The meeting was attended by Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, Education Minister Ashish Sood, and senior officials from relevant departments. The PWD will now advance all necessary procedures related to the project’s implementation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that education is the strongest foundation of any developed society. The Delhi government is continuously working to provide better educational opportunities for the youth. The new campus in Dheerpur will not only enhance Delhi’s capacity in higher education but also set a new standard for a modern, inclusive, and sustainable academic environment.
The campus will be developed over approximately 20 hectares (50 acres) and will be phased to cater to the needs of around 8,000 students. The first phase will include academic facilities for 5,400 students, along with hostel accommodations for 840 students and residential facilities for faculty and staff.
The new campus will feature modern academic blocks, a central library, administrative buildings, student amenities, a grand auditorium with a capacity of 2,500 seats, sports infrastructure, and parking facilities. This environment will provide students with a modern, inclusive, and future-oriented learning experience.
The Chief Minister noted that this campus will exemplify the coordination of education and sustainable development. Plans are in place to develop the campus in accordance with the GRIHA 5-star rating, incorporating renewable energy sources like solar and geothermal energy, rainwater harvesting systems, wastewater recycling, and modern water conservation and management systems. The project has already received essential statutory approvals from the Delhi Urban Art Commission (DUAC) and the Delhi Fire Service, facilitating its implementation.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta remarked that this approval is a significant achievement in expanding higher education in Delhi and elevating it to new heights. The goal of the Delhi government is not just to build new educational buildings but to develop institutions that offer students global-level education, research, innovation, and opportunities for personal development.
The new campus in Dheerpur will provide students with a modern, inclusive, and sustainable learning environment, better preparing them for future challenges and opportunities. The Delhi government is continuously strengthening infrastructure in the education sector so that every young person in the capital can advance according to their talent and potential, further solidifying Delhi’s identity as a leading center of knowledge and education in the country.
