New Delhi, June 23: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini and Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma met on Tuesday in New Delhi under the chairmanship of Union Minister for Jal Shakti, C.R. Patil, to discuss various water-related issues.
Union Minister C.R. Patil confirmed that both Chief Ministers were present during the meeting. They discussed the issue of additional water allocation to Haryana under the 1994 agreement. A consensus was reached to create a new agreement ensuring that Rajasthan receives the water originally allocated to it. The water will be transported through pipelines to Rajasthan, and both states have agreed on this arrangement. The formal signing of the agreement is expected by next Monday in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Chief Minister Saini stated that the meeting involved extensive and positive discussions on various topics related to water distribution between Haryana and Rajasthan. He emphasized the need for meaningful solutions to ensure fair and effective management of water resources through dialogue and cooperation.
He added that ongoing meetings, led by Prime Minister Modi and Minister C.R. Patil, aim to enhance water management and ensure water reaches every individual. Agreements have been reached on the Lakhwar, Kishau, and Renuka dam projects, which will provide water benefits to the people of Rajasthan, Delhi, and Haryana. Discussions are ongoing about how to transport this water to Rajasthan. Recent talks also included the need to utilize rainwater that typically goes to waste during the monsoon season, directing it in a way that benefits Rajasthan.
Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma highlighted that the meeting included significant discussions on the Yamuna water project and various points of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA). He noted that constructive discussions were held regarding the Kishau dam project. Thanks to the guidance and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi, this long-awaited project is now progressing rapidly. Our government is committed to implementing this ambitious project with the cooperation of the central and Haryana governments. It will provide drinking water to the Shekhawati region and meet the irrigation needs of farmers, thus boosting development, prosperity, and well-being in the area.
He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for accelerating projects that have been stalled for decades. Under Modi’s leadership, many longstanding issues, especially water disputes between states, are being resolved. Whether it concerns Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh, or disputes involving Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi, new plans are continuously being developed and implemented. Additionally, unresolved disputes are being addressed under Modi’s leadership. He thanked Minister C.R. Patil and Chief Minister Nayab Saini, noting that Rajasthan has long sought its share of Yamuna water, and the original decision made in 1994 is now being advanced through dialogue among all relevant authorities.
