Kolkata, August 17: Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar addressed reporters on Monday, discussing various issues, including the unfortunate incident in Tarapith, West Bengal. He stated that the tragedy highlighted the lack of safety measures around hotels during the previous government’s tenure. Such incidents should not occur if hotels are equipped with appropriate safety devices.
Majumdar assured that the government is taking the matter seriously and will take strict action against those responsible. He emphasized that no one involved will be spared. The hotel owner has already been arrested, and the investigation has been expedited due to the seriousness of the case.
A tragic incident occurred in Tarapith, Birbhum district, where a fire broke out at the Foreignini Hotel near the Tarapith police station around 4:30 AM. The Prime Minister’s Office expressed condolences on social media, quoting Prime Minister Narendra Modi: “I am deeply saddened to hear about the deaths in the fire incident in Birbhum, West Bengal. I express my sympathies to those who have lost their loved ones. I wish a swift recovery to the injured. The local administration is assisting those affected by this incident.” PM Modi announced compensation of ₹2 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the PM National Relief Fund.
Additionally, Sukanta Majumdar responded to a statement from the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, suggesting that it is prudent to disregard Rahul Gandhi and the Congress leadership at this time. He stated that they are incapable of effecting any change and can only criticize. He also mentioned having a list of leaked examination papers from the Congress regime, reinforcing that such individuals should not be taken seriously.
