Gandhinagar, August 15: On the occasion of the 80th Independence Day, Jagdish Vishwakarma, the President of the Gujarat Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stated that freedom should not merely be viewed as the enjoyment of rights. Instead, it should be understood as the responsible exercise of those rights and the disciplined fulfillment of duties towards the nation and society.
Addressing the flag-hoisting ceremony at the state BJP headquarters in Gandhinagar, Vishwakarma highlighted that the Constitution not only grants rights to every citizen but also assigns them the responsibility to contribute to the unity, integrity, and progress of the country.
He emphasized that true freedom involves not just the enjoyment of rights but also their responsible use, coupled with the disciplined, honest, and dedicated fulfillment of one’s duties towards the nation and society.
Vishwakarma noted that Independence Day is not only a celebration of national pride but also an opportunity to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country’s freedom and to strengthen the resolve for nation-building.
He paid tribute to freedom fighters, revolutionaries, and other great personalities who dedicated their lives to the freedom struggle.
Reflecting on Gujarat’s contributions, the state BJP president mentioned Mahatma Gandhi’s role in spreading the message of truth and non-violence, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s organizational skills and commitment to national unity, and the contributions of Shyamji Krishna Varma and Sardar Singh Rana to the freedom movement.
He pointed out that India’s progress spans various sectors, including science and technology, space, defense, agriculture, healthcare, education, digital systems, startups, women’s empowerment, and infrastructure. This journey of development has seen contributions from every hardworking citizen.
Referencing the national goal of a ‘Developed India,’ Vishwakarma expressed a collective aspiration for India to emerge as a developed, self-reliant, and prosperous nation by the centenary of its independence, capable of guiding the world.
He urged citizens to prioritize national interests, strengthen unity, integrity, and social harmony, and fulfill their responsibilities with honesty and dedication.
Vishwakarma also encouraged people to support indigenous products, conserve water and electricity, protect natural resources and the environment, safeguard public property, promote cleanliness and education, and contribute to drug-free initiatives and social service.
In a call for collective efforts inspired by the spirit of ‘Nation First,’ he stated that our lives, talents, and hard work should be dedicated to the country.
