New Delhi, June 12: The NEET (UG) 2026 re-examination is scheduled for June 21 across the country. In a significant move, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced several changes aimed at making the exam more convenient and accessible for all candidates. One of the most notable adjustments is the extension of the exam duration. This year, the exam will take place from 2 PM to 5:15 PM, totaling 195 minutes, which includes time for formalities at the beginning and end of the exam.
In previous years, many students reported that time spent on signatures and other procedures left them with insufficient time to answer questions. According to students, these formalities negatively impacted the actual exam time. With the new arrangement, the NTA aims to ensure that students have ample time to complete their exams.
Additionally, a new provision has been introduced for rough work. The number of pages available for rough work in the question booklet has been doubled. Students will now receive four pages instead of the previous two. This change will facilitate calculations, diagrams, and problem-solving for students. For the first time, the NTA has also considered the needs of left-handed students.
In light of this, the format of the question booklet has been revised. Previously, all rough work pages were located at the end of the booklet, which was convenient for right-handed students but challenging for left-handed ones. Under the new system, two rough work pages will be placed immediately after the instruction page at the beginning of the booklet, with two additional pages at the end. This arrangement will apply to question booklets in English and all regional languages, allowing students to utilize rough work space at both the front and back of the booklet.
According to the NTA, approximately 10 percent of candidates are left-handed, making this change particularly beneficial for them. The NTA states that these small but significant improvements in the examination system are steps taken to enhance the student experience.
The NTA reiterated its commitment to conducting NEET (UG) 2026 in a fair, secure, and candidate-centered manner, promising continued efforts to improve the examination process in the future. This announcement is seen as a relief for millions of medical candidates across the country, as time management and rough work facilities have long been among the primary demands of students.
