Gandhinagar, June 30: The path has been cleared for the expansion of the Indian Institute of Teachers Education (IITE) in Gujarat’s capital, Gandhinagar. The state government has approved a project worth ₹127 crores, which will include the construction of a modern hostel accommodating over 600 students, along with state-of-the-art educational and research facilities.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel performed the ground-breaking ceremony for the new campus on Tuesday. This university was established in 2010 under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Education Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar, State Minister Trikambhai Chhanga, and Rivaba Jadeja were also present at the event.

According to the state government, the new campus will feature modern academic buildings, a faculty block, advanced classrooms, science laboratories, seminar halls, a cutting-edge library, a museum, and sports facilities. Additionally, a modern hostel for over 600 students will be constructed.

Education Minister Pradyuman Tomar stated that this project marks not just the beginning of a new building but also the inception of a new era in producing outstanding teachers who will guide India’s future. He emphasized the need for India to develop not just teachers but nation-building educators who can lead in the global education sector.

He mentioned that IITE was established as a world-class teacher education institution, and the new financial approval will accelerate its expansion.

Referencing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Tomar noted that Gujarat is among the leading states effectively implementing this policy. He stated that the new education policy emphasizes multidisciplinary education, research, innovation, and skill-based learning. With this aim, IITE is being developed as a multidisciplinary university.

He also highlighted that seven new schools have been established within the university to promote comprehensive education and research, facilitating the integration of various fields of knowledge.

Tomar asserted that education is the most powerful means for societal and national development, with teachers laying the foundation for nation-building right from the classroom. He remarked that the foundation stone of the new campus represents not just a concrete structure but a strong base for a bright future of ‘Developed India’ through ‘Developed Gujarat.’

State Minister Trikambhai Chhanga added that the establishment of this university is not limited to literacy but aims to promote new thinking and research in the field of education. He expressed confidence that the effective implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 will bring significant changes to the country’s education system and teaching methods in the coming years.

During the event, the digital launch of the IITE curriculum also took place, and teachers from Vadnagar’s B.N. High School, who taught Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his school years, were honored.

The ceremony was attended by Gandhinagar Mayor Meera Patel, Rajya Sabha MP Rajesh Shukla, university faculty members, academic heads, directors, principals, and a large number of students.
