Nagoya, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Neeru Dhanda has etched her name in history by winning India’s fifth gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya. Competing in her first Asian Games, Dhanda secured victory in the women’s trap individual event with an impressive score of 28, setting a new Asian record. She is the first Indian woman to win gold in this category.
Dhanda topped the qualification round with a score of 118. Her performance in the finals was remarkable; despite missing her first shot on the ninth attempt, she quickly rebounded with perfect hits in the subsequent rounds. Ultimately, she hit 19 out of 20 shots, solidifying her position at the top.
Even after missing one shot in the fifth series, she maintained her lead, finishing strong with a perfect score in the final series to clinch the gold medal. Throughout her debut at the Asian Games, Dhanda only missed two shots out of 30.
China’s Yunong Sun took home the silver medal with a score of 26, while a shooter from Kuwait earned the bronze with a score of 21.
This gold medal in shooting marks India’s second in the sport at this edition of the continental showcase, contributing to a total of five golds for the country in Aichi-Nagoya.
Earlier in the day, Dhanda also won a silver medal in the trap team shooting event alongside teammates Ashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer. The Indian team scored a total of 328 over three days of qualification, surpassing the challenge posed by the Kuwaiti team.
