Nishio, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxer Parveen Hooda has reached the finals of the women’s 65 kg category at the Asian Games, held at the Nishio Gymnasium. She achieved this remarkable feat by defeating China’s Li Shu with a decisive score of 5-0 on September 29.
Hooda showcased her skills, particularly in the last two rounds of the bout. She won the first round by a narrow margin of 3-2, employing careful counter-punching techniques. In the second round, she took control with powerful hits, despite Li Shu managing to land some punches. Ultimately, Hooda secured the round with a clear 5-0 victory. She continued her dominance in the third round, landing precise punches and winning it again 5-0, with all five judges voting in her favor—three scoring it 29-28 and two at 30-27.
With this victory, Hooda will now face Chen Nien-Chin from Chinese Taipei in the final. This matchup promises to be intense, as Nien-Chin is a current Olympic and World bronze medalist and also claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games.
In addition to Hooda, Indian boxers Ankush Panghal and Narendra will also compete in their respective semifinals on the same day, both aiming to secure spots in the finals.
India has already guaranteed six medals in boxing at the Asian Games. On Monday, Kapil Pokhriyal, Priya Ghanghas, and Lovlina Borgohain all won their matches, further solidifying India’s presence in the sport.
Priya secured her medal in the women’s 60 kg category after a dominant 5-0 victory over Tajikistan’s Mizgona Samadova in the quarterfinals. Earlier that day, Lovlina triumphed over South Korea’s Seong Su-yeon in the women’s 75 kg quarterfinals with another strong 5-0 win.
On Sunday, Ankush, Hooda, and Narendra each won their quarterfinal matches, ensuring three medals for India. The reigning Commonwealth Games champion Ankush defeated Tajikistan’s Nekruz Salimov in the men’s 80 kg quarterfinals by unanimous decision, marking India’s first boxing medal at these Games.
Hooda also confirmed her medal in the women’s 65 kg category by beating Uzbekistan’s Navbakhor Khomidova 5-0 in the quarterfinals. Narendra secured his medal by winning against Thailand’s Adthapong Sangtep in the men’s +90 kg quarterfinals.
