New Delhi, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Former Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma is set to join the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as their new bowling coach for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. This decision comes as CSK looks to revamp its coaching staff following a disappointing performance in recent seasons.
At 38 years old, Sharma will take over the role from Eric Simmons, who previously worked alongside former head coach Stephen Fleming. According to sources, CSK’s head coach Zaheer Khan has made the decision to bring Sharma on board for IPL 2027. Further announcements regarding the rest of the support staff are expected in the coming weeks.
Sharma, who has played eight T20 matches for India, participated in IPL 2025 and officially retired from playing cricket last December. During his tenure with CSK, he featured in 48 IPL matches over four seasons and also played ten matches in the now-defunct Champions League T20.
Having been part of CSK’s successful run, Sharma’s return to the franchise marks the beginning of a new chapter under Zaheer’s leadership, as the team aims to bounce back after failing to reach the playoffs for three consecutive seasons. CSK clinched its fifth IPL title in 2023 but has struggled since, prompting the decision to part ways with long-time head coach Fleming.
As the first major addition to the support staff ahead of IPL 2027, Sharma’s appointment signals CSK’s commitment to strengthening its coaching team, with more changes likely to be announced soon.
