Indian Boxer Ankush Pangal Advances to Finals at Asian Games, Narendra Secures Bronze Medal

Nishio, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Indian boxers continue to shine at the Asian Games in Nishio. Ankush Pangal secured his place in the finals by defeating Faziliddin Erkinboev in the men’s 80 kg semi-final.

In a thrilling match, Ankush came back from a 1-4 deficit at the end of the first round to win 4-1. He displayed remarkable skill, winning the second round 3-2 with precise punches. The third round saw him dominate, finishing with a 5-0 score. Four out of five judges awarded him the win, with scores of 29-28, while one judge scored it 28-29 against him.

Unfortunately, Narendra faced a setback in his semi-final match, losing to Orlabe by a unanimous decision of 0-5. Despite a commendable effort, he could not overcome the world champion’s powerful punches. Orlabe controlled the bout, winning the first round 5-0 and maintaining his lead in the second. In the third round, he adopted a defensive strategy, concluding the match with a solid victory.

Ankush’s achievement marks him as the first Indian male boxer to reach the Asian Games finals since Amit Panghal won gold in Jakarta in 2018. This also represents India’s second confirmed silver medal in boxing at the current Games.

Earlier, Parveen Hooda reached the finals of the women’s 65 kg event by defeating China’s Li Shu 5-0. She will compete for the gold medal against Chen Nien-Chin from Chinese Taipei.
