Nagoya, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : India concluded its athletics campaign at the Asian Games 2026 in Nagoya with a bronze medal in the men’s 4×400 meter relay on September 29. The team, consisting of Dharmveer Chaudhary, Manu Thikkini, Jai Kumar, and Vishal Thenarasu, finished with a time of 3:01.61 seconds.
Japan took home the gold medal with a time of 3:00.75, while Qatar secured silver at 3:00.93, leaving India 0.86 seconds behind the champions.
Dharmveer set a strong pace at the start, handing the baton to Manu as the team remained competitive for a medal. However, during the second leg, Manu faced challenges from the crowd, forcing him to maneuver for space, which left India in fourth place when Jai took over.
Jai made a remarkable comeback, briefly pushing India into second place behind Japan. Unfortunately, during the final exchange, the team slipped back to fourth. Vishal’s impressive final leg performance, however, allowed India to reclaim third place.
Earlier in the day, the women’s 4×400 meter relay team won gold, with Kiran Pahal, M.R. Poovamma, Prachi, and Vithya Ramraj finishing in 3:29.69. Bahrain followed closely for silver at 3:30.21, while China took bronze with a time of 3:31.02.
India also earned a bronze medal in the mixed 4×100 meter relay, where Gurinderveer Singh, Sneha Satyanarayan, Animesh Kujur, and Harita Bhadra clocked in at 41.06 seconds.
Overall, India secured a total of 24 medals in athletics, including 1 gold, 9 silver, and 14 bronze. With a total of 52 medals, India currently stands in 10th place in the overall medal tally, which includes 6 gold, 21 silver, and 25 bronze medals.
