Noida, 12 December. The cold wave has arrived in Delhi-NCR, with minimum temperatures steadily falling. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), shallow to moderate fog conditions are expected to persist in Delhi-NCR on 12, 13, and 14 December.
On 12 December, the maximum temperature is likely to be around 24 degrees Celsius and the minimum around 9 degrees Celsius. Similar temperature levels are forecasted for the next three days. Increasing humidity combined with cold winds has slowed down air movement, causing pollutants to remain close to the ground.
Air quality in Delhi has deteriorated rapidly, with many monitoring stations registering very poor to severe levels. Reported AQI readings include Anand Vihar at 391, Ashok Vihar 379, Bawana 368, Burari 354, Chandni Chowk 366, Mathura Road 309, Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range 321, DTU 366, Narela 364, Nehru Nagar 362, Dwarka 394, and Punjabi Bagh 364. Several areas have crossed an AQI of 350, with some nearing 390, indicating extremely hazardous air quality.
All active stations in Noida have recorded severe AQI levels, including Sector-125 at 371, Sector-62 at 314, Sector-1 at 355, and the most critical being Sector-116 where AQI has reached 400. Ghaziabad is also facing worrying conditions, with Indirapuram at 350, Loni at 427 (the most polluted area in NCR), Sanjay Nagar at 326, and Vasundhara at 242 AQI.
Greater Noida is severely affected as well, with Knowledge Park-III showing 312 and Knowledge Park-V at 373 AQI. The IMD predicts that as temperatures continue to drop, pollution levels will rise further. Night temperatures are expected to fall more in the coming days while wind speeds remain low, which will directly impact air quality and likely push AQI values higher.
According to the Air Quality app, the current air quality is classified as “very poor,” and prolonged exposure may increase the risk of respiratory diseases.
