National Conference on Domestic Violence Safety and Justice to be Held in New Delhi

New Delhi, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : The National Commission for Women (NCW) is set to host a significant event on October 7 at the Plenary Hall of Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The conference, titled “Women First: Strengthening Safety and Justice in Domestic Violence Cases,” will be led by NCW Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar.

Union Minister for Women and Child Development, Annapurna Devi, will be the chief guest at the event. During the inaugural session, a book titled “From Violence to Protection – How Women Can Seek Help from Protection Officers in Domestic Violence Cases” will be launched.

This national conference aims to bring together protection officers to discuss enhancing institutional responses to domestic violence and ensuring effective access to safety and justice for women. The focus will be on empowering these officers to respond effectively to domestic violence complaints, provide timely safety and support, and share best practices from across the country.

Vijaya Rahatkar emphasized the importance of protection officers in ensuring that women facing domestic violence receive the legal protection and assistance they need. She stated, “Strengthening their capacity, improving coordination, and sharing effective methods are crucial so that every woman can move from a situation of violence to safety, respect, and justice.”

Former Chief Justice Geeta Mittal will conduct a technical session on “From Complaint to Protection: Empowering Protection Officers for Effective Action Against Domestic Violence.” This session will address the challenges faced by protection officers in enhancing their actions and providing effective safety for women experiencing domestic violence. An interactive segment will also allow protection officers to share their experiences and best practices in handling domestic violence cases.

The closing session will feature Justice Vikram Nath of the Supreme Court and Executive Chairperson of NALSA (National Legal Services Authority). Through this national conference, the NCW aims to strengthen institutional responses to domestic violence by providing protection officers with better information, effective methods, and a platform for sharing experiences. This initiative reaffirms the commission’s commitment to ensuring timely safety, assistance, and justice for women facing violence.
