Five Students Injured as Ceiling Collapses at Udaipur School

Udaipur, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : A significant incident occurred on Tuesday morning at a government primary school in the Bhinder police station area of Udaipur district. The ceiling plaster of a classroom suddenly fell, injuring five students. This accident took place in Narda village, part of the Vaniyatlai gram panchayat.

According to officials, the plaster fell around 11 a.m. when 32 children were present in the classroom. Three students sustained head injuries, while two others received minor injuries.

Headmaster Lalsingh Shaktawat reported that first-grade students Krishna Kumari and Karthik, along with fifth-grade student Ganesh Lal, were among those injured. They were taken to Bhinder Government Hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The loud crash of the falling plaster caused panic among students and staff. At the time, children from three different classes were studying in the same room. Following instructions from the education department and local authorities, the school building has been closed as a precaution. Classes will now be held at a nearby local religious site, ‘Mataji Ka Chabutra.’

The headmaster noted that the school caters to students up to the fifth grade, with a total enrollment of 37. He also mentioned that the education department had previously been informed about the building’s deteriorating condition. The school was constructed in 2001.

Both the headmaster and local residents stated that the building has significantly deteriorated over time and has been in poor condition for an extended period. Residents have alleged that they have repeatedly complained to the education department and local administration about the building’s state, but no substantial action has been taken.

The school consists of two classrooms and a veranda, all reportedly in a dilapidated state. Community members expressed that if the ceiling had fallen at a different time, the incident could have resulted in a major tragedy. This event has raised new concerns about the safety of children attending government schools housed in old and poorly maintained buildings.

Following the incident, Rajendra Kumar Chaubisa, the CBEO of Bhinder, visited the school to assess the situation.
