Udayanidhi Stalin Criticizes Tamil Nadu Government Over Police Action Against Nurses

Udayanidhi Stalin condemns the Tamil Nadu government for police brutality against protesting nurses demanding job security and fair wages.

Chennai, October 6 (Daily Kiran) : Udayanidhi Stalin, leader of the opposition and secretary of the DMK Youth Wing, has sharply criticized the Tamil Nadu government in response to police violence during a nurses’ protest. Taking to social media platform X, he condemned the government’s actions against the demonstrators.

Stalin stated, “I strongly denounce this government’s brutal assault on protesting nurses through the deployment of police forces. The nurses are demanding regularization of their jobs and equal pay for equal work.” He pointed out that while in opposition, the current rulers promised to regularize nurses on their first day in power, yet they are now the ones unleashing police brutality against them.

He accused the government of crossing all limits by confining nurses to cramped spaces, cutting off electricity, and threatening them with questions like, “Do you value your life?” He described the use of derogatory remarks against nurses and their struggles as an extreme form of disrespect.

Stalin remarked, “Previously, they claimed they wouldn’t tolerate even a scratch on nurses, yet today it is shameful that they are attacking not only the protesting nurses but also their young children.” He sarcastically questioned, “What do we call this attack on children? Should we call it the ‘Mama Lathi Charge Plan’?”

He also targeted the Chief Minister, asking, “Why do the hands that wipe the fake tears of a dummy candidate refuse to wipe the real tears of life-saving nurses?”

Stalin urged the government to immediately halt the repression against nurses, engage them in dialogue, and take necessary steps to address their demands.

Currently, thousands of nurses in Tamil Nadu, under the banner of the Tamil Nadu Intermediate Health Workers Association, are on strike and protesting. They have long sought to resolve wage discrepancies and demand job security by regularizing their positions.
