New Delhi, August 31: Nasim Siddiqui, spokesperson for the NCP (SP), praised the Maharashtra government’s recent decision regarding the Marathi language. He stated that the decision was made with consideration for the sentiments of the people. Siddiqui emphasized that granting an additional year for non-Marathi individuals is a commendable step. He criticized the BJP, asserting that it operates from North India, not Maharashtra.
Siddiqui remarked, “The government’s decision is very good. It has been taken keeping in mind the feelings of the people. While the Shiv Sena (Shinde faction) and NCP (Ajit group) may oppose it to some extent, the ruling party is BJP, which is driven by North India, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. The BJP does not operate from Maharashtra.”
He added that the decision is politically motivated. However, it is welcomed as it provides non-Marathi residents in Mumbai, including drivers and cab operators, with an extra year to adapt. “We have been stating in the last four to six interviews that no language can be learned in just 2-4 months,” he said.
In response to another question, Siddiqui noted, “This issue is not new. It existed even before independence, and that tradition continues today. The country gained independence under Mahatma Gandhi’s leadership, but freedom from untouchability remains unachieved.”
He further explained that the Nehru family, originally from Kashmir, exemplifies this issue, as they were referred to as Nehru due to their residence near a canal, highlighting the complexities of Brahmin identity.
Additionally, Congress leader Danish Ali responded to RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s statement, asserting, “The RSS is a multifaceted organization.”
