New Delhi, September 1: U.S. Ambassador Sergio Gor met with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev on August 31. The discussion focused on ongoing collaboration in energy and commerce, as well as enhancing security ties between their nations. Prior to this meeting, Gor had engaged with Kyrgyz President Sadir Japarov in Bishkek.
Ambassador Gor shared on social media platform X, “Had a very productive meeting with President Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan. We discussed ongoing cooperation in energy and commerce, and strengthening security ties between our countries. Exciting announcements between the U.S. and Uzbekistan are on the horizon.”
According to Uzbek media, Gor congratulated Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence at the start of their meeting. He also conveyed greetings and best wishes from U.S. President Donald Trump.
Both parties positively assessed the momentum in bilateral relations, which includes political dialogue, inter-parliamentary and inter-regional connections, and the continuous expansion of trade, economic, and investment cooperation.
Special attention was given to the practical implementation of joint projects and initiatives. Energy, transportation, critical minerals, digital technology, AI, and agriculture were identified as priority areas.
On the other hand, the U.S. expressed a desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Kyrgyzstan. Ambassador Gor stated, “I met with President Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic in Bishkek. There are numerous excellent opportunities for collaboration between our two countries.”
He added that the U.S. is eager to welcome President Japarov next month, where both nations will discuss advancing their growing partnership.
Discussions also covered bilateral cooperation, investment, digital technology, and regional connectivity. Japarov is expected to visit the U.S. soon. This meeting is seen as significant in light of America’s increasing engagement in Central Asia, with growing prospects for collaboration in trade, investment, security, energy, and regional connectivity between the U.S. and Kyrgyzstan.
The U.S. is not a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Gor’s visit coincides with the 35th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s independence and the opening of the World Nomad Games.
