Uttar Pradesh Implements GPS Tracking for Sugarcane Transportation

Lucknow, September 1: The Uttar Pradesh government is actively working for the benefit of sugarcane farmers. In line with this, the Sugarcane Development Department has initiated a significant move to protect farmers’ interests and modernize the sugar industry’s operations. This new system aims to streamline the sugarcane transportation process.

Sugarcane Commissioner Ministi S announced that under this digital initiative, all vehicles transporting sugarcane from purchase centers to sugar mill gates will be GPS tracked. A central control room will be established, where officials will monitor the movement of sugarcane-laden vehicles 24/7. This real-time surveillance will effectively curb unnecessary delays, unauthorized stops, and any form of malpractice.

This step is considered a major and revolutionary change towards bringing transparency to the sugar supply chain. The direct beneficiaries of this entire system will be the sugarcane farmers.

He further explained that by integrating digital technology into the sugar supply chain, the department is considering a Vehicle Tracking System for live tracking of vehicles.

The Sugarcane Commissioner noted that previously, it often took a significant amount of time for sugarcane to reach the mills after being harvested, leading to drying due to sun and wind exposure. With the implementation of the Vehicle Tracking System, the supply to sugar mills will be ensured within 24 hours of harvesting. Timely transportation will maintain the freshness and natural weight of the sugarcane, protecting farmers from weight deductions and financial losses.
