Naomi Osaka Advances to Third Round at Wimbledon with Dominant Win Over Anastasia Gasanova

London, July 1: Naomi Osaka continued her impressive performance at Wimbledon 2026 on Wednesday, defeating Anastasia Gasanova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. With this victory on Court 2, Osaka secured her place in the third round.

Throughout the match, Osaka maintained her dominance. Playing her first tour-level match against Gasanova, the Japanese star showcased her powerful serve and excellent shot-making from the outset, leaving her opponent little chance to shift the momentum.

Osaka recorded eight aces and won 76 percent of her first serve points, allowing her to earn free points consistently while applying no pressure on Gasanova during her service games.

Gasanova, ranked world number 225, advanced to the second round after overcoming the qualifying rounds and defeating Emiliana Arango in her opening match. However, she struggled to find her rhythm against Osaka. Gasanova managed only 11 return points throughout the match and failed to create a single break-point opportunity.

In contrast, Osaka capitalized on three of her six break points and easily won this match in straight sets, following her first-round victory against Elsa Jacquemot.

Beyond her tennis skills, Osaka also showcased her unique fashion sense at the tournament, once again reflecting traditional Japanese culture in her Wimbledon attire.

After debuting a kimono-style look in the tournament, Osaka wore a white ‘obi’ on Court 2, a wide belt or sash traditionally worn with kimonos. This accessory holds significant cultural importance in Japan and is associated with martial arts like judo, symbolizing discipline and progress. Including the obi in her Wimbledon outfit also evokes the traditions of the samurai. Osaka adhered to Wimbledon’s ‘all-white’ dress code by incorporating the obi into her all-white ensemble.
