Mumbai, April 1: The Ghatkopar police in Mumbai have dismantled an alleged prostitution ring operating in Andheri, Sakinaka, and Ghatkopar, leading to the arrest of a woman. Further investigations are underway.
According to reports, the police apprehended 38-year-old Kavita Anil Mane, a resident of Kandivali. She is accused of exploiting financially vulnerable women by luring them with money and providing their services to clients. The police have filed charges against her under Section 143(3) of the BNS and Sections 4 and 5 of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act.
The Ghatkopar police received a tip-off from a confidential informant about a woman named Kavita supplying girls for illegal activities in hotels across Ghatkopar, Sakinaka, and Andheri. The police used a ‘dummy customer’ to contact her, who allegedly sent pictures of herself and two other women to this fake client.
Mane reportedly demanded ₹30,000 for each girl before providing them to clients. Acting on this information, the police summoned Kavita Mane to a lodge located on the Ghatkopar-Andheri link road through the dummy customer. To trap her, the police prepared bundles of cash, with two genuine ₹500 notes on top and the rest resembling fake ₹500 notes from the ‘Indian Children Bank.’
Mane arrived at the lodge with two women aged 32 and 31. She was arrested while allegedly accepting money for the services of one of the women. The women revealed that Mane had promised them ₹15,000 each for servicing the client.
