Mumbai, February 13: Political tensions are rising in Mumbai. Aditya Thackeray, a leader of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and a sitting MLA, has criticized the city’s mayor for prioritizing issues related to Bangladesh over pressing local concerns.

Thackeray pointed out several critical civic issues plaguing Mumbai, including poorly maintained roads, delayed garbage collection, inadequate and unsafe footpaths, encroachments on public spaces by builders, and pollution in water and air. He emphasized that the mayor should focus on these local problems instead of emphasizing matters related to Bangladesh.

He further stated that issues of border security and illegal immigration fall under the jurisdiction of the central government and the state home ministry. This raises questions about how Bangladeshi nationals could traverse the country if they entered illegally. Thackeray questioned how they managed to pass through states governed by the BJP and remain in India for extended periods, especially given that the BJP has been in power at the center for over a decade.

Thackeray labeled this a serious national security issue, asserting that if there has indeed been significant illegal immigration, accountability must be established. He raised concerns about whether this reflects a failure of intelligence or administrative oversight.

He accused both the central and state governments of needing to clarify what measures have been taken to prevent, identify, and deport illegal immigrants. Thackeray insisted that accountability in matters of national security is essential, and the government must provide clear answers to these pressing questions.
