Lucknow, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Mohsin Raza has been entrusted with a significant role as the chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh Minority Commission, a move by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2027 assembly elections. Along with this appointment, Raza will also hold the status of a cabinet minister. His new position is expected to enhance the organization and government’s engagement with minority communities across the state.
Raza previously served as a minister of state for minority welfare, Muslim Waqf, and Haj in Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s first term. He was appointed to the cabinet following the formation of the Yogi government in 2017 and has also been a member of the Legislative Council. His recent appointment comes at a crucial time, as political discussions intensify regarding the management of Waqf properties in the state.
Before receiving this new responsibility, Raza met with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on August 12 to discuss alleged irregularities related to the state’s two Waqf boards. He called for a special investigation and audit of Waqf properties at the district level. The government has also appointed eight members to the commission, including Sandeep Jain, Anshuman Kumar Singh Masi, Hanpreet Singh Bedi, Mohammad Aslam, Parvinder Singh, Neha Khan, Syed Siraj Abbas Rizvi, and Roomana Siddiqui.
These members represent diverse social and regional backgrounds, with Sandeep Jain from Etah, Anshuman Kumar Singh Masi from Shahjahanpur, Hanpreet Singh Bedi from Muzaffarnagar, Mohammad Aslam from Fatehpur, Parvinder Singh from Lucknow, Neha Khan from Ambedkarnagar, Syed Siraj Abbas Rizvi from Azamgarh, and Roomana Siddiqui from Lucknow. Raza’s appointment marks a return of a politically active figure to the commission after a long hiatus.
The commission is poised to play a crucial role in managing Waqf properties, implementing minority welfare schemes, and addressing community-related issues in the near future. As the BJP aims to extend its reach to minority communities leading up to the 2027 elections, Raza’s appointment as chairperson, along with his cabinet rank, underscores his importance in the party’s strategy concerning minority affairs.
