Mock Drill for Civil Defense Blackout Scheduled in Patna

Patna, May 12: A civil defense blackout mock drill will take place in Patna’s urban areas on Thursday evening from 7:00 PM to 7:15 PM. This exercise aims to prepare citizens for potential air raid situations.

The Patna district administration has urged residents to turn off all lights in their homes, shops, and establishments during this time. District Magistrate Tyagarajan S.M. has instructed officials from various departments to coordinate effectively for the flawless execution of the mock drill.

He reassured the public, urging them not to panic, as this drill is a pre-scheduled exercise mandated by the government to test the system’s effectiveness in the event of an actual air raid. There is no real threat of an attack.

Residents are advised to ignore any rumors. The air raid warning mock drill and blackout will follow established standard operating procedures, ensuring that the functionality of the emergency response system is tested. The mock drill will not impact the availability of essential services for the public.

The District Magistrate noted that the mock drill will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines set by the Directorate of Civil Defense, covering urban areas such as Patna Municipal Corporation, Danapur, Khagaul, and Phulwari Sharif. Various teams are active, managing logistics, lighting, traffic control, law and order, alternative communication, publicity, and documentation.

Simulation sites for the drill have been selected within Patna district, including the Patna Collectorate, Biscoman Building, Bankipur Bus Stand, and IGIMS. During the mock drill, specific disaster scenarios will be established, and activities will be conducted according to the action plan. The drill will also be held in six districts across the state.

On May 14, if a warning of an air raid is received, a civil defense siren will sound for two minutes at the designated time, signaling the blackout. The effectiveness of various stakeholders in the disaster management system, including the fire brigade, ambulances, NCC, NDRF, SDRF, municipal bodies, civil defense, and law enforcement, will be evaluated.
