Chennai, June 3: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) celebrated the 103rd birth anniversary of its founder and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi, on Wednesday. Party president MK Stalin paid tribute at the Karunanidhi memorial located on Marina Beach in Chennai.
The event was attended by senior party leaders, ministers, legislators, and a large number of DMK workers. Karunanidhi served as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister five times and played a pivotal role in shaping the state’s politics and social development.
Stalin shared an emotional message on X, reflecting on Karunanidhi’s lifelong contributions and dedication to the welfare of Tamil Nadu and its people. He described Karunanidhi as a great leader, noting that despite facing health challenges in his later years, the former Chief Minister remained committed to public service until his last days.
Stalin wrote, “He was a great leader who worked tirelessly for the progress of Tamil Nadu and its people until his last breath. Even in his final years, confined to a wheelchair, he never wavered in his commitment to serve the public.”
Stalin emphasized that Karunanidhi continues to guide his political journey. He credited the strength to face both victories and defeats to the lessons learned from Karunanidhi.
“I never let success go to my head, nor did I allow failure to weigh me down. The strength to face every challenge came from you,” Stalin remarked.
Reflecting on a recent electoral defeat, Stalin acknowledged that the party missed the opportunity to remain in power. However, he stated that Karunanidhi’s ideals and resilient spirit continue to inspire him and the thousands of party workers he mentored.
He noted that the values, thoughts, and leadership imparted by Karunanidhi have historically helped the DMK secure numerous electoral victories and have played a crucial role in advancing Tamil Nadu’s development.
In closing, Stalin urged party workers to move forward with renewed vigor and determination. He expressed confidence that the DMK would achieve electoral success once again and create new history.
Referring to the party’s symbol and reaffirming their commitment to return to power, he declared, “We will create a new history of victory. With the light of the rising sun, we will dispel the darkness surrounding Tamil Nadu.”
