Srinagar, July 23: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has responded to the demolition of homes belonging to two active terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LET) following a recent attack in Anantnag district. Speaking to reporters, Abdullah emphasized that improving the situation requires bringing people together, as demolishing homes will not lead to any real change.
The Chief Minister’s comments came after a terrorist attack in Anantnag on Wednesday that resulted in the death of a police officer. He stated that retaliatory actions driven by anger will not help improve the conditions in the region. “I understand the police’s frustration, but the Supreme Court has ruled against such immediate actions,” he noted.
Abdullah recalled a similar situation after the Pahalgam attack in April 2025, where homes were bulldozed. He had to intervene with the central government to halt this trend.
The homes of terrorists Adil Thokar and Haroon Rashid Ganai were demolished overnight following the killing of Head Constable Ashiq Hussain Qureshi during a duty assignment in Anantnag.
He pointed out that investigations into the previous Pahalgam attack revealed that none of the attackers were local; they all came from outside the region.
Abdullah asserted that demolishing homes or making thousands of arrests will not improve the situation; in fact, it may worsen it. Drawing from his past experience, he stressed that violence cannot be ended without the involvement of the community.
He added that after the Pahalgam incident, the public expressed their anger and raised their voices against the terrorist attack. The community remains outraged over the brutal killing of Head Constable Ashiq.
