Pat Cummins, Starc Rested; Mitchell Marsh to Lead in Both Formats
Melbourne, July 30 — Cricket Australia has announced its ODI and T20 squads for the upcoming tour of South Africa, with young all-rounder Mitchell Owen earning his first-ever call-up to the One-Day International side. Fast bowler Lance Morris also returns to the 50-over format.

Owen’s inclusion comes on the back of his impressive T20 performance against the West Indies, where he scored 125 runs at a strike rate of 192.30, including a half-century on debut in Jamaica. He also caught attention during the previous domestic One-Day Cup season, smashing a sensational 149 off just 69 balls for Tasmania against South Australia.
Labuschagne retains ODI spot; major changes after Smith, Maxwell retirement
Marnus Labuschagne, who was recently dropped from the Test squad for the West Indies tour, has been retained in the ODI team. This series marks a new phase for the Australian white-ball side following the retirements of Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell from ODIs.
Left-arm pacer Spencer Johnson misses out due to injury, while Jake Fraser-McGurk, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Tanveer Sangha, and Sean Abbott have been left out of the squad.
Head, Hazlewood return; Cummins, Starc rested
Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood have made comebacks in both ODI and T20 formats. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc have been rested to manage workloads ahead of Australia’s home summer season.
Mitchell Marsh has been named captain for both the T20 and ODI sides.
Chief selector praises squad depth
Australia’s chief selector George Bailey said, “The depth and resilience displayed during the West Indies series was a positive sign beyond just results. The flexibility in the batting order and the variety in bowling were particularly impressive.”
He added, “Lance Morris has been managed with care, and we’re confident in his potential to succeed across all three formats.”
