New Delhi, April 9: Gujarat Titans (GT) secured their first victory in IPL 2026 on Wednesday. In a thrilling third match of the season, GT triumphed over Delhi Capitals (DC) by just one run at the Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium. The return of Rashid Khan to form was a significant highlight for GT in this match.
The narrow win against DC was largely attributed to a critical mistake by David Warner. In the final over of DC’s innings, Miller failed to take a single on the fifth ball, leading to Kuldeep Yadav’s run-out on the last ball, resulting in DC’s defeat by a single run. Despite scoring 41 runs off 20 balls and bringing DC close to victory, Miller’s error proved costly. However, the match also marked a satisfying return to form for GT’s main spinner, Rashid Khan.
Rashid played a decisive role in GT’s victory with the ball. While Siraj and Prasidh Krishna conceded 52 runs each in their four-over spells, Rashid was economical, taking 3 wickets for just 17 runs in his 4 overs. He dismissed Nitish Rana, Sameer Rizvi, and Axar Patel. His impressive bowling performance earned him the Player of the Match award in this high-scoring encounter.
As the tournament is still in its early stages, with GT having played only three matches, Rashid’s return to form on a pitch conducive to batting is a positive sign for the team. GT will be hoping for similar performances from him in upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Rashid’s resurgence has certainly increased the pressure on opposing batsmen.
Rashid Khan had struggled for form in recent seasons. In IPL 2025, he managed only 9 wickets in 15 matches, with an economy rate of 9.35. The previous season was also challenging for him, as he took 10 wickets in 12 matches with an economy of 8.40.
In the match, Gujarat Titans batted first, scoring 210 runs for 4 wickets, while DC could only muster 209 runs for 8 wickets.
